Applying for Financial Aid

To apply for Financial Aid at AB, you simply need to:

Incoming students need to complete an application and be admitted to AB.  Once you have been admitted by the Admissions Office and you submit your FAFSA to AB, you will receive a Financial Aid Award Letter via postal mail.

Returning students must complete a FAFSA each and every year. Once your FAFSA is submitted, you will receive an email notification via your Battler email instructing you to go to the student portal to view and accept your Financial Aid Award Letter.

A FAFSA waiver is available if a student does not wish to complete a FAFSA.  No federal or state funds may be awarded without a FAFSA. Types of institutional aid that may be awarded without a FAFSA are limited. Contact the FAO for more information.

FAFSA

Because eligibility for student aid does not carry over from one award year to the next, you need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for each award year in which you are or plan to be a student.

  • FAFSA opens for submission for the upcoming academic year on October 1st
  • Complete your FAFSA online at fafsa.ed.gov
  • List AB as a school of choice (Code 003806) so that AB will receive your FAFSA
  • Be sure to read each section carefully, sign electronically* and submit FAFSA

*To sign your FAFSA, you will need an FSA ID. If you are a dependent student, then your parent will also need an FSA ID.  Not sure if you are considered a dependent student for the FAFSA?  Go to https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/dependency to find out.

FSA ID

  • Go to fsaid.ed.gov to create, edit or retrieve your FSA ID
  • WRITE IT DOWN!! Keep a record of your FSA ID, password, email address, and security questions
  • You and your parent will need this every year to complete your FAFSA, apply for federal student loans, and to perform other important activities for federal student aid
  • You and your parent must have a different FSA ID
  • You and your parent must use different email addresses to create your FSA ID
  • You must create your own FSA ID – it’s your electronic signature and you need to own it
  • Your parent must create his or her own FSA ID
